Vintages Value List November 10, 2012

Hello Again Fellow Tipplers,

We are heading into the holiday season and that means most retailers are gearing up for the onslaught of consumers who partake in all the celebrations that this time of year has to offer. Vintages is out of the starting gate this weekend with some ultra premium offerings at fairly hefty price points. Fortunately we were still able to find some great values in a variety of styles!

Sparkling Wine

297846 Cave De Lugny Brut RoséBrut Crémant De Bourgogne (Burgundy) $16.95

Cranberry, fresh orchard apple aromas and flavours with mineral leading out to a long apple flavoured finish. A good priced fizz for that after work pre-holiday libation with friends!

White Wine

86249 Bonterra Sauvignon Blanc 2010 (California) $17.95

Cats pee, lime zest, lemon and zesty acidity are on order in this refreshingly light Sauv.

292227 Dopf & Irion Vorbourg Pinot Gris 2009 (Alsace, France) $17.95

Pretty, seductive and quite big for a Pinot Gris - featuring aromas of honeysuckle, white fruits, floral notes and spice on the palate. Thiis wine is off-dry. Bling factor – Silver Medal (Decanter World Wine Awards 2012)

Red Wine

75515 La posta Angel Paulucci Vineyard Malbec 2010 ( Mendoza, Argentina) $15.95

Rich and velvety smooth – cedar, spice, black plum and earthy notes are on offer in this elegant wine and priced well! Drink over the next 5-6 years, Score :90 (Jay Miller, erobertparker.com)

286385 Clos La Coutale Cahors 2010 (Southwest, France) $15.95

We love the inky old world Auxerrois grape (aka Malbec) from southern France. Look for dark berries, smoky plumminess. It’s large and bold but definitely Old World in style. Smoooth …

Stunningly delish – ample flavours of fresh, lively cherry, strawberry fruit and a hint of vanilla. Score:90 (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com)

297291 Château Wiala Domino 2007 (Burgundy, France) $18.95

There are briary berries (weird but wonderful), licorice and vanilla notes here. It can be laid down for another 3-4 years for further improvement but it already has some good age on it.

76398 Pierre Amadieu La Grangelière Vacqueyras 2010 $19.95

Big, black and smoky - brooding flavours of plum, blackberry, fig and a smoky finish. Drink now through 2018, Score: 92 (James Molesworth, winespectator.com)

27516 J.Lohr Osos Merlot 2010 (Paso Robles, California) $19.95

b by any means. Blackberry, cassis and dark mocha notes are present. Score:91 (Michael Schachner, Wine Enthusiast Aug 2012)

Classic Cali Cab. It’s presents a great balance of oak and berries.
