Bonjour mes amis!
Vintages has some spectacular French wines on offer this weekend. We are going to recommend a few sparklers to set off your occasion and then uncork or cellar some fabulous Bordeaux reds at great prices. We didn't taste the whole release as we had ample wines to recommend from France. The list will have you saying, ""Plus du vin s'il vous plait!"
362558 Ployez-Jacquemart Extra Quality Brut Champagne $54.95
OK – this is well over the usual Vintages Value List price threshold, but this presents great value. This champagne is full of flavor: quince, candied orange peel, citrus notes. It leaves an oily mouth feel and tastes great. (Score: 92, Alison Napjus, winespectator.com)
180323 Domaine J. Laurens Le Moulin Brut Blanquette De Limoux (Méthode Traditionnelle) (Midi, France) $17.95
Orchard fruits – apple, pear, soft mouth feel with more apple on the finish. Absolute delight!
369082 Reinhartshausen Riesling Brut Deutscher Sekt (Rheingau, Germany) $17.95
This sparkler is very dry and very spritzy. Look for peach, pear and graphite notes.
991562 Bailly Lapierre Réserve Brut Crémant de Bourgogne (Burgundy, France) $19.95
Zingy, zippy, citrusy. FUN!
168559 Conde De Haro Brut Cava 2010 (Rioja, Spain) $19.95
Fresh apple and yeast aromas and flavors and a subtle oily mouth feel. Great value here!
Spirits - Liqueurs
317206 Sortilége Prestige (Quebec) $49.95
Wow – we were really taken by this Liqueur made of 7 year Old Canadian Whisky & Pure Maple Syrup. Not overly sweet - flavors of candied/burnt sugar and a hint of toasted nuts. Crème Brule would pair well with this number.
307363 Château Le Grand Moulin Grande Réserve 2010 (Côte de Bordeaux, France) $16.95
Beautiful fragrant aromas followed by flavors of dark plum, menthol, savoury spice and earth notes.
368159 Château Lamartine 2010 (Côte de Bordeaux, France) $16.95
This is 85% Merlot and 15% Cab. Sauv., so it is smooth. There are distinct cherry notes with spice and leather in the background. It presents a lovely, long finish.
365874 Château Donissan 2010 (Bordeaux – Listrac-Médoc, France) $17.95
Blueberry jam, cherry, earth and spice!
365882 Château De Monbadon 2010 (Côte de Bordeaux, France) $18.95
Aromas of eucalyptus followed by flavors of plums and spice, tannins have some grip. This wine should rest for the next 4-5 years. Score 90 (Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast)
365908 Château Le Bourdillot Séduction 2009 (Bordeaux - Graves, France) $18.95
This offers a very pretty nose then an earthy, chewiness on the palate. SMOOTH This is a great value. Vintages has brought it in as a “Wine-of-the-Month” and they buy a large parcel for this promotion and usually get good pricing as a result of the large buy. These savings are passed onto you and you are getting a great value here!
738120 Château Haut Selve 2010 (Bordeaux – Graves, France) $21.95
This is a great cellar starter or, if you are a seasoned collector - a reasonably priced wine to lie down for 3-6 years. The nose is full of freshly peeled parsnips and the palate full of dark fruit and vanilla. The tannins are in your face, ergo the recommendation to let it rest and develop for a few years. (Score: 90, Roger Voss fr. The Wine Enthusiast)
365791 Château De Maison Neuve 2010 (Bordeaux – St. Émilion, France) $23.95
TOTAL smoked meat thing happening here. A nose and a sip will take you to Schwartz’s in Montreal. This would pair well with cured meats and flavourful hard cheeses. (Score: 91, Beppi Crosariol fr. The Globe and Mail)
Rose et Karen (Les Autres Femmes du Vin)
