The 2006 edition of Cheap Eats Toronto has hit the presses and will be lining book shelves around the city some time next week.... The book, also available online, will cost you just under 12 loonies before tax... or approx 2.5 breakfasts. If you're too cheap for even that, check out the Eat & Drink section or search "Cheap Eats" on blogTO.

Living Well is now Arrabiata Trattoria

ArrabiataLiving Well, on Yonge, south of Bloor is in the process of becoming Arrabiata Trattoria RestoBar. Arrabiata, 692 Yonge Street, is still being setup and since they haven't posted a menu (or opening date) we won't know for a while whether it is a CheapEat or not.

Red Pen: pg. 96 of , Living Well - closed.

While it's sad to see this neighbourhood fixture go, it won't surprise our friends who went to Living Well for a very disappointing dinner during Pride.

Saveur de Saigon: Notes from a Bay Street CheapEater

I have a new fav lunch spot.

Deep in the bowels of the sprawling food courts that feed the hungry drones in the financial district is a little Vietnamese place called Saveur de Saigon. Saveurs de Saigon

You won't find complex combos and pages upon pages of options here though. It's strictly $4.99 combos of something on rice or noodle with vegetables or salad. Each day there are four specials, along with Pho and Banh Mi (they call them "French Sandwiches")

Full tummy alert! This is not your typical, stingy food court restaurant. Saveur de Saigon are out to make an impression, and they are succeeding!

I'm particularly fond of the Grilled Lemongrass Chicken on rice with salad. The chicken is very good and the portions are quite surprising, given it's in a food court.

Today I had the Beef Ragout, on veggie rice with salad and their house dressing. They just kept scooping more and more into the takeout container until no more would fit. I easily got twice as much food as any other place in the same food court, for less money.

Notes From A Bay Street CheapEater

In response to some very pointed, and accurate, comments from our friends and readers, we are introducing a semi-regular feature to the - .

Bay Street CheapEater

As you know, the team is constantly collecting recommendations and checking out restaurants across the city.  However, we've realized (with a little help) that between publications we are being a little stingy with that information and is our first step in addressing this.

Gerry, or as he is known in your handy-dandy guide, is going to start sharing his lunch explorations through the Financial District.  works off Bay Street and he is always trolling the food courts and back streets looking for for good and cheap eats to distract him from his day job.

In addition to being a regular contributor to ,  is the owner of Plethora Press and co-publisher of the CheapEats Restaurant Guides. He also takes on the daunting task of visiting almost 400 restaurants to ensure consistency in the style and cleanliness before a new edition of goes to print.   is one busy CheapEater.

Look for 's first installment in   in the next couple of days.
